To celebrate the launch of Capsule 01 from our scented candle range, the Nonna’s team each hosted a meal in honour of one of the three fruits. Issy had a lunch in a friend’s yard dedicated to the Lemon; Annie, our operations wizard, hosted a cosy midweek supper surrounded by Oranges; and Maddy’s dinner party was all about the Tomato.
Across all three occasions, our candles were part of that magic combo that makes a meal a special one (as well as good food, great guests, lots of laughter and lively convo - it’s the atmosphere we like to imagine our candles in when we send them out into the world). See details from Issy’s lunch below. And look out for Annie and Maddy’s meals in your inboxes soon.
Buon appetito!
SETTING THE SCENE:
It was a crisp and sunny winter’s day and we spent the morning at the farmers market buying supplies. We made a quick stop-off at Canberra’s best bakery Under, and then headed home to get stuck into the food prep. Later, friends arrived on bikes (because: Canberra) and the garden was soaked in sun, ready to be lunched in. As well as this dreamy, zingy playlist, you could hear birdsong and the sound of friends laughing and cooing over the delicious food. Our meal preceded a night out at our local fav Gang Gang, and I have to say that a long lunch before a night of dancing is a great combo.
MENU HIGHLIGHTS:
We drank limoncello spritzes, and made a lemon and rosemary shrub that was served on soda (shrub is a syrup made from fruit, sugar and vinegar - yum).
Before the main meal there was zesty trout dip, and Imogen prepared her signature snack—what she calls the ‘ultimate trifecta’—consisting of pickled mussels, Smith's Double Crunch chips, and tabasco.
For lunch, we ate chicken that Tim perfectly roasted following a Jacques Pépin recipe. There were lemony potatoes, the Molly Baz Cae Sal salad, and a leafy salad with roasted beetroot and hazelnut.
Photos captured by the wonderful Rose Hartley, dear friend to Nonna and all.
STYLING NOTES:
As well as our lemon candles flickering away and giving off scents of juniper berry, cedarwood and lemon peel, the table was decorated with Buddha’s hand - an extremely fragrant citrus that looks a bit like a yellow hand. Perfect pops of yellow for a sunny, backyard lunch!
